Today is a national holiday. On May the 5th Dutch people celebrate the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany. It is called Liberation day. This year is special as it is the 70th anniversary.
We set out this morning to find a good place to watch. The slight flurry of rain didn't dampen our spirits.
The boys were excited by the troops, the tanks and the guns.
But I was moved by the old soldiers, waving proudly.
The evening before we watched the remembrance service on TV with the boys and observed the silence.
We explained what was happening and why.
Of course we should enjoy the parades and concerts but we need to remember and teach the next generation the real message.
We should never forget what these brave people did for us!
Happy liberation day everyone.
