Can autistic children really be bilingual?

Dear friend,

I am an avid reader of anything about autism and bilingualism and this week came across this excellent article.

Autism and Bilingualism: Our Family’s Journey to Make it Possible.

I knew that there were other families out there like ours and that share the same ideals.

The other weekend my big lad had a friend staying. We spent all weekend speaking Dutch almost exclusively so as not to exclude his friend. When he left I started to talk to him in English. His response amazed me. "Thank you! My mummy is back, I missed you!"
